I met a really lovely guy over the weekend, the glitch is that he lives in the UK, I live in Ireland. Is it worth trying to start/maintain contact, or would it be a lost cause even trying to get things off the ground?

Well without jumping the gun, why don't you initially keep in touch with no major expectations? I mean you only met for the first time, so it's pretty hard to know what exactly will come of it.

Arrange to meet up again and if you think it's worth a shot then you will find a way to make things work. The UK is very readily accessible to us these days.
