Tour Bus - South Island

I am due to travel a few weeks in the South Island shortly and rather than have the hassle of renting a car I am thinking about going on one of those tour buses that caters for backpackers and the like. My aim is to see the sights but not spend the whole time on the lash, I want to do some hikes, the odd bungee, kayak and mountain bike so dont want to be hungover all the time. However the odd night here and there I most certainly will be letting the hair down.

Here are the three companies I've looked at:

    Kiwiexperience
    Stray
    Magic Bus

From research Kiwiexperience is 21's and under, I'm sure its great craic but I'm looking for a slightly more mature crowd so thinking of going with Stray, can anyone else let me know their experiences or how they found the tours in the South island in general

    Cheers

Cheers just looking into this company now. It does look a little expensive but it includes accommodation.

While I have never done the bus tours I did work in a bar in Queenstown and saw all of these buses come through. Stray, in my opinion, is a good option for you. Generally was a slightly older (than 21 anyways) crowd, had fun aswell. As far as I'm aware, this bus allows you to hang on in a place if you want to stay another night or two and then join the next days bus (subject to availability).
Kiwiexp was a mental party bus and magic...well always seemed a little quieter (Maybe the partied in a different bar).
I used to chat to one of the drivers on the Stray bus all the time and he was bang on!!
    Just my observations

This may be too late to be of any use but I would definitely go with Stray out of those three options.

I did a tour with them recently and although the crowd is still mostly young (<25) it was a lot more about seeing the country and enjoying your time there.

Kiwiexp seemed to be far more focused on getting shtfaced every night and from my observations - the two companies overlapped in many locations - were a younger and a bit of a rougher crowd than Stray.

Didn't see the Magic bus at all so can't comment.
