A union for the people

I am curious if there would a need or want for a peoples union. A group similar to other unions that would represent the self employed as it seams every other industry has representation at a senior level bidding on their behalf. What about a union to represent those that are suffering because of various cuts to welfare, an increase in taxes/decrease in income? One that is not swayed or hijacked by the usual leftist nutters but run by the people for the people so that they could have a voice.

All too often we here people wanting to protest but do not know where to start or what to do or are afraid that they are the only ones that will turn up! While I am aware this is after hours I would hope in the light of recent cuts and tax increases we could maybe keep this thread as constructive as possible.

As for me I think the people need more than self serving politicians to represent them. A politician will not agree with a major protest for fear it will blow the feathers from their nest.

So what you all think? And like I said I am just curious about this idea. Due to the above cuts and a lack of work I am leaving this country in a few weeks so I cant do it before anyone suggests I should stop bashing a keyboard and do something.

The SFA and ISME offer something like you suggest for the self-employed. They lobby the government on behalf of the SME sector and advise their members on various matters such as HR and employment law.

You mean a council? Made up of councillors voted in by the people in each community? Great idea!

Think you were already beaten to it though.

So, we form an advocacy group for those that are self-employed, unemployed and those who are unhappy with their level of income or the taxes they pay or the cuts in services?

It's so obvious I can't believe there isn't one. If only there was some mechanism by which disparate groups of people could choose individuals to represent them at a national level.

I think people on welfare should get a union . Instead of going on strikes they would go an do 24hr work startages .
    Be great laugh .

Indeed. What could be funnier than laughing at the unemployed? Wiping your arse with fifties, perhaps

Show them where the actual work is and I'm sure you have no problem getting them to start.

As long as people think civic duty goes no further than putting an x beside somebodies name it will make no difference.

The people aren't involved in the running of their own society. We elect people that try to make popular decisions while staying completely ignorant of the actual work involved ourselves. We just spout demands and respect results with some sort of magic to happen in-between.

    :D Brilliant
Lets reduce taxes and increase welfare.
Its so simple and so obvious, why has nobody thought of this already?

You're not entirely clear on what 'leftist' means, are you?

Oh, theres the problem. When you emigrate, start an isolates commune and run experiments in social engineering to determine how to keep muppets and committees from ruining any organisation. Didnt Hitler and Stalin try that?

That would be any political party not in government.

I form a union every night man.... like a union of the minds when I'm tripping balls on mushrooms and acid.... it's like so spiritual man.... so unionific..... I don't know why people are so down on unionists.... they're so far out........ and after a union of the mind I like to have a union of the genitals with a lady of the opposite gender...... right on man..... right on..............

    Donut Union!

We need a union to pressure the government into supplying everyone with a donut.

I'd settle on them just sending me donuts, though.

Everyone complains, but when it comes to actually voicing complaints to the government in the form of protests, you are a crusty and a nutter....or an overpaid, on the pigs back union official
