Tim Burton scared the sh1te out of me on a dvd commentary once, looooong pauses with him not saying anything, to the point where I forgot he was even talking and started paying more attention to the film, then out of nowhere he coughed, I jumped.

    Thanks for that link.

I do like a good commentary - Chris Frayling on the Dollars Trilogy been amongst my favourite.

"Bowling for Columbine -- Commentary track: Receptionists, production assistants, and interns. Rating: 1.9"

I kind of want to hear that now, haha.

Evil Dead II is the best commentary I've ever heard, almost as funny as the film itself!

This is the best one I've heard. It made one of my favorites seem even better than it was, great analysis.

funny commentaries are much easier to listen to, I love the one for Deep Blue Sea, where Samuel L Jackson admits he only took the role as it was shooting near a place he could go golfing, and once his character dies he fecks off from the recording booth as he has no reason to stick around for the end :pac:

Brass Eye is the best commentary I've ever heard/seen.

They paid a couple of homeless guys who'd never even heard of the show (and as a result thought it was genuine) to come in, watch it and give their thoughts.

Am I the only person who rips audio commentaries as mp3 files, then listens to them on his iPod?

Some personal favourites include Paul Thomas Anderson on Boogie Nights, David Cronenberg on The Fly and Francis Ford Coppola on the Godfather trilogy.

Alas, I only have the DVD version of The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, so I don't get Frayling's scholarly, well-researched insights; I get Richard Schickel describing what is happening onscreen. Cheers, Richard, but I actually have the use of my eyes!

I love to know tidbits and inside info on my favourite movies. But even saying that, I find commentaries usually very dull. One boring old guy talking on his own about how great he is and what a masterpieces his movie is.

The best ones in my opinion are the ones where it's a group of people, usually the cast, all together and chatting away. You get the most fun out of that as invariably they just slag each other off. :p
