Labour will remain in government

So sayeth the Gilmore. We will remain in government while we have abandoned all of our core values as a party and have conveniently forgotten all the things we said we would do if elected. Difficult choices have to be made, and Labour must not shirk from them, and so what we said we would do have been overtaken by events such as ensuring that we remain in power whatever the cost. After all, when we were in opposition we couldn't possibly have known what was going on in the country, could we? How could we possibly have known about the EU/ECB/IMF issues? We sat around in the Dail and no-one told us. It was all Fine Fail's fault.

Sadly, dear Eamon, that excuse is wearing a bit thin. You have signed up to yet another growth-eliminating budget because your FG superiors told you to, and you have released your vitriol on those in your party that dared to question your policy. The slippage in your party is slowly developing, and it may become a landslide. Beware that you are not caught up in that Dear Eamon, because if you are you will be forced (under great pressure) to leave politics and retire on a meagre pension.

You could, however, go back to the promises that had you elected (remember?). How you would oppose Fine Gael and defend the people. Then along came Fine Gael and Honest Enda who offered you a snout in the trough, and you grabbed it. You sold out, dear Eamon. You didn't stand up the the EU or the Troika as you insisted you would. You paid the creditors rather more than the "red cent more", and you consigned your people to penury for a generation.

The Irish economy is falling apart in debt in your watch, and you can no longer blame it on anyone else. Even your own backbenchers can see that. You are the second in command in government and you can't hide any longer. You can vote, and demand a party whip for those who don't wish to, for austerity and new taxes including those that border on the immoral. You can collude with the lies that Fine Gael spread with an enthusiasm that would put Goebbels to shame, but you can't hide forever.

The time has come, dear Eamon, to stand and be counted, not in terms of pensions and severance payments, but in terms of duty to those who pay you. Will you do that?

    Not a f*****g chance!

What a non-sensical rant:D. You'll have to put up with much the same next year & then have 2 more budgets to warm the cockles of your heart:D:D:D

I don't have much time for Gilmore and would not vote Labour.

But do you (ART) not see this is a coalition Govt? That Gilmore is not a free agent to implement Labour policies? That he is only contributing 1/3rd of the votes in Govt - and less every week?

Also that Social Welfare takes 37% of Govt spending? And Labour limited the cuts by €140 million in this budget. I am not happy with that.

    Another "growth eliminating" budget?
However, exactly, can you reduce the deficit and better promote growth?
