I want to be able to receive some free to air uk channels. I don't have a satellite and I am in the cork area. How would I go about this. BBC and ITV would do but the more channels the better (gold, film 4, vault etc.) Would a box from pixmania do, i.e. http://www.pixmania.ie/ie/uk/12951954/art/cgv/premio-stl-dvb-digital-tv.html or would I need a satellite?

    You need satellite.

The box is not the problem, the problem is the signal. As Cork is not near NI or Wales only a satellite signal can work, so as the previous post says invest in a dish.

As last two posts said you would need a satellite dish, and I would recommend a Freesat Box rather that a Free to Air box. You will not get Freeview in Cork anyway.

see http://www.freesat.co.uk/ for some box suggestions and list of channels.

Thanks for the replies. Would it work if I got this dish: http://www.satellitetv.ie/satellite_dish_43cm-2.4m/sky_dish_zone_2
    and this receiver: http://www.satellitetv.ie/sat_receivers_hd_1080/xoro_hrs_8530
    or this one: http://www.freesat.co.uk/products/sd-digital-box-range/bush-freesat-sd-box

Would I be able to get most of the Astra channels?
    Thanks again

Yes,that dish looks ok but you can surely get a secondhand dish on the Pink pages section of the Cork Evening Echo. You will also need an LNB to go on the end of the dish and a good quality brand of cable.I would also recommend a decent Freesat box over a free to air box.I have one already and am about to receive a new tv with a built in Freesat tuner. You will not be able to open any of the encrypted channels on the Sly package but most of the free to air ones are on the Astra 28.2 satellite where the Sly package is is also broadcast from.TMULL
