A toyota dyna year 99-00, not d4d, that when driving in 3,4 and 5 gear has a slight hum of it, someone said it could be a gearbox bearing.
Also it takes it a while to start even if you been driving it and there doesnt seem to be that much heat coming from the blower and takes ages to warm the cabin.
    any help/advice welcome...Ta

Sounds like three separate but simple issues there.

The hum is probably a bearing as you say, turn the radio up and weigh up whether it's worth fixing.

Cold start problems could be fubared glow plugs or a weak battery not throwing it over fast enough. No heat is usually a thermostat stuck open meaning it takes ages to warm up, also means it will cool quickly making the starting problem worse.

Dyna gearboxes go. Luckily they are easily removed and replaced, do the clutch while you're at it. Any I've had to do, i pulled the body off the back and gave the chassis a wirebrushing and a shot of stonechip at the same time. €1500 should get a fully recond box. Stick in a set of heater plugs, do a service and replace the thermostat. While you are lavishing the attention, drop the oil out of the diff and put in fresh, it will make a world of difference. Have a look at the battery and its carrier box too, as well as the leads and terminals. A good clean up might suffice, but a new battery would do wonders - it's very exposed hanging out under there and leads a harsh life. The main earth wire and its connections is usually on its last legs and a clean up and new cable might not go astray. Pay particular attention to where it meets the chassis rail.

I believed these gearboxes on these old Dyna's to be bombproof, the hiace van has the same gearbox am i right?
Its not that bad of a hum but will probably get worse.
Was told it was most probably be a bearing and not that big of job to replace it.

Went out this morning and turned ignition and waited few seconds and started up first time. I drove it about 6 miles and parked it up and come back 20mins later and it took abit churning to get it to start

They're not. By any stretch of the imagination.

this hum from gearbox will gradually worsen then?

would it help to put an additive in the gearbox?

how do i change the diff oil?

Eventually you wont be able to get any gear, it will just seize up, common enough. Additive me hole. Open the lower drain bolt on the diff, let the oil out and replace, fill up with fresh through the upper fill bolt hole. If Dyna gearboxes were so tough, the gearbox specialists wouldn't have them available off the shelf, as they do..

thanks...how long it last like that or how many miles would you expect to get out if it before the gears would start acting up as if not long i may just get shot of it in January.
is it possible to just replace the bearing(s)
