While looking in the mirror this morning, I realised how skinny I actually am. I have a pair of dumbbells (3kg, 5kg, 6kg and 12kg) and I've decided to try make myself 'look better'.

Was wondering if anyone could help me by suggesting good ways to make use of the dumbbells while building up my upper body? Im thinking arms, chest and back for now.

    Thanks!

Thread here for home workout using bodyweight. http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056185716

IF you want to get bigger you have to eat for the size you want. Read the stickies, work out your maintenance calories and add a surplus. It's all explained in stickies but if you've other questions ask away.

If you want more advise diet wise post up what you eat on a daily basis, theres plenty of people here can advise you.

Why only train your upper body??

Thanks for your help. I will read the stickies now. Well the reason I said upper body was because I didnt think there was any exercises you could do using dumbbells for the lower body.

Check out that thread above Convict Conditioning, the lower body workouts are tough with just your own body weight especially when you get to the advanced stages. When you get experienced you can hold the dumbbells in your hand while doing the leg work to make it more challenging.

That's pretty thin alright. Jesus im 6'1 and when i cut weight i struggle to get to 70 kg! Throw away those paper weights you own except for the 12kgdumbells. Buy a good mass gainer.

I think this is bad advice - trying to do an exercise with weights that are too heavy for you is a really bad idea. Starting out if you've got bad technique then the lighter ones may actually still be too heavy for you and if you are using the wrong technique you could be doing yourself injuries.

I am 2 years at it, and there are plenty of exercises I can hurt myself with using 12kg and lighter db's.

I'm not trying to be macho or anything like that. I don't lift very heavy. But if your gonna build muscles (especially chest and arms) 3kg dumbells are totally pointless unless there being used for a cardio excersise. He should have maybe 8kgd for warm up for beginner, then 10's and 12's for his reps. That wouldn't be asking much of anyone I think. Fair enough if he's struggling with them then of course go lighter.

I agree with this. Too many people lift light weights and then wonder why they never grow. I also agree with using correct for for an exercise. For your chest the 12kgs will do for dumbell flys but prob not for dumbell press although they might be ok for you to learn the correct form with.
