I think the cost would depend on the amount of work required - most projects are changed by hour. Most will do an assessment of your clues and give you guidance on likelihood of success, and give an estimate of any suggested searches.

If you have a specific source involved then some will carry searches for a predefined charge- e.g. search xxx parish for Murphy baptisms between 1840 and 1850.. etc

Why not post some details and see if we can help get you started ?

I looked into this myself earlier this year and emailed a company in Dublin online. They gave an average quote of approx 250 euro, which I was prepared to pay as I have been doing the "Family Tree" for almost 6 years now and have spent hundreds of hours and a lot of money searching but hit a brick wall with my Irish Ancestors. They asked me to tell them via an email, the details of my searches so far with all the names, dates etc... So I emailed them the details of the one side of the family that I am keen to find out about. I have to admit, I was quite proud of tellng them all my dates and events, I thought I had given them alot to go on. They came back to me a few days later and fair play to them, they were very honest. They explained that because of records destroyed at a certain period and although they had searched their own databases, they would only be able to assume or summise details. On this basis, they advised me not to go ahead with their services. Although I felt dissapointed at the time, I was grateful of theit honesty and they didnt take my money when they could have done. Good Luck to you though.
