How much gets done in the final week of a domestic construction job?!

    Long story short..

Have been promised, repeatedly, that our house renovation and extension would be finished by Christmas. The builders have been very good to date and I trust them a lot.

Having no experience of this type of work, however, I'm finding it very difficult to believe they can meet this deadline. Not necessarily a problem, I just wish they admit it!

It's a small, terraced house (with extension, about 60m2). As far as I can see, the following elements are remaining:

    -kitchen installation (small kitchen)
    -fitting worktop/ & kitchen tiling
    -joinery/cupboards&storage (quite a bit!)
    -painting
    -final fix electrics/plumbing
    -sanding floors
    -polishing concrete floor
    -cleaning

So, typically, what elements of work get done in the final week??!! Are they being realistic or ridiculously optimistic?

You neef to fast forward to next year. And the next. And the next. And ask a different question. Was the work rushed at the end ?

My advice. Make it very very clear to the builder you want the work done well more than you want it done fast.

If the works take till mid Jan you really wont care about that for Christmas 2013
