I thought this was interesting, it doesn't give a lot of details on what decisions he made and why he made them

A farmer and inventor from Hebei Province in northern China has unveiled survival pods he hopes could prove invaluable in the event of a catastrophe on 21 December, the date that the ancient Mayan calendar comes to an end. Liu Qiyuan has created a series of spherical fibreglass pods able to offer refuge to several people should natural disaster befall them. And if the world doesn't end, he hopes that they could help the victims of tsunamis and shipwrecks.
Bandwagon hopping or serious survival football?
