    Good evening all,

I have a 406 2000 reg Coupe.I was getting the thermostat fixed at my local garage when I mentioned a noise when I started the car cold.

He reckons it the hydraulic lifters, says he can't fix it himself but will get me a price. He also said it could be serious.

Anyone here have any experience of this, what it cost etc ?

    Thanks

If it is hydraulic lifters then the likely cause will have been poor maintenance so there could be other damage.

I don't understand why your mechanic couldn't replace them if they were the issue.

    Hi Nissan

Its a pain as I have taken care of it well over the past 18 months.

My mechanic has someone else thats more experienced in Peugeots,I think that the reason.

Is it a big / expensive job ? My lad did speak to the person who would be doing the work and he reckoned he would have to actually listen to the engine before he could say how bad/serious it is.
