Does anybody have an explanation as to why coffee is a bit expensive in shops. I noticed when buying sugar, milk, teabags and coffee that the coffee is usually more expensive than the other items combined. I even tried in Lidls and some of there unknown brands were a tad to dear.

I don't know what crops were like this year but poor crops have been experienced on occasion in recent years driving cost up. The higher price is mainly down to demand with the coffee culture globally but expanding rapidly in Asia.

I noticed recently/in the last year that Lavazza/Dunnes don't do the 3 pack for the price of 2 anymore. Great value.

Luckily enough I work in Costa and get free coffee, but just cant beat Lavazza.

Pretty much any coffee from a reputable roaster will beat Lavazza hands down on flavour and probably a bit cheaper too.

I seen a large jar of Nescafe in Tesco a while back and it was near enough 7 euro, i think that is expensive for an item that would be bought very regularly.

In a past job, a girl that started in the job had worked in a coffee shop in Liffey Valley and brought in a packet of coffee she had got from the coffee shop. Myself and another lad were on the late shift and made 2 cups of coffee and after a half hour we began to feel a bit strange and light headed. When we read the packet it said 'THIS PACK IS FOR USE IN COFFEE MACHINES ONLY'. :)

Arabica coffee prices more than doubled between 2009 and 2011, when they hit a 14-year high, but have since halved and are now back at 2005 levels.
Robusta prices have, in contrast, been rising.
