Rig upgrade

I have had my rig up and running for over 2 years now and well I think its time to upgrade it a bit/ future proof it for another year or 2

    Im currently running this:
    i5 2500k
    4gb Gskill ripjaws
    msi twin frozr2 560ti
60 gb ssd for os only and a 1tb hdd
800w psu ( bought this for future upgrading/maybe sli)

All in a coolermaster storm enforcer case it runs pretty quiet and cool at the moment so cooling and noise are not an issue.

I want more grunt in it so more ram and a better GPU are the 2 most obvious things I'm going to upgrade.
I take it just get 2 4gb ram sticks and replace the existing ones in there same make and model and what not although the heatsinks on the existing ones are pretty large and slightly impede the casing of my cpu coolers fan so any recommendations for smaller ram sticks would be nice.

As for GPU this is where I'm stuck, should I get a 670 or a 7970 as the 680 just doesn't seem worth it, I have no preference for nvidia or amd just want best bang for buck which will run pretty quiet or like existing card,
On bf3 and other up and coming titles at good fps currently getting around 45 on high during multiplayer with my 560ti, so what will get me to 60fps at least.

Would investing in a good monitor also be a good idea as I mainly game and am currently doing so on a samsung 22" lcd tv at 1080p would a 120hz monitor be worth a punt.

How much trouble would getting a bigger ssd and transferring windows across to it be I have a key for windows which im currently using, so any good ssd suggestions would also be good.

    Thank you :)

Bigger SSD seems a good idea. Crucial M4 or Samsung 830. 128GB or 256GB. You'd probably be okay with cloning the OS unless you feel that you'd like a new install.

The 560ti is still pretty good - do you actually feel it's holding you back?

While the HD7970 would of course be a decent upgrade I think you'd be better to hold off 6 month (could even be less) or so as the next gen cards such as the 8970 or Nvidia equivelant would be a more substantial upgrade from your current setup.

Well OP whatever you do I still would get 8gb ram. It's cheap, there is no reason why not to get it.

You could still get good few quid for your gpu. And if you really want to upgrade I would get something like 7870 or 7950.
Whatever you do don't go near 680. 670 is a lot better bang for your money but even with current and prices I would just go pass nvidia stuff now.

6months is a long time and in 6 months a lot of gaming has to be done :d. We will see only overpriced high end stuff anyway. In my opinion it's better to buy gpu in its mid/mature generation time. Prices botted out and you get a good deal for your money.

A HD7870 would barely even quailfy as a decent upgrade. If going the midrange route then i would certainly wait.

I Didn't say not to buy now, but if op is not desperately unhappy with current gpu then it is certainly something worth considering. It could even be much sooner depending on which rumours you believe.
