Our vet was explaining to me that they can get it round their heart and it kills them very quickly...

Lost a bullock to this in October. Noticed he wasn't himself one evening but still sprightly enough and he scampered when I went near him so wasnt too alarmed. Following morning he was dead. Took him into lab in Kilkenny and had it confirmed as black leg. Had not vaccinated for it so it was my own fault. Lesson learned. I done them all with tribovax since.

Lost a heifer at the start of october in the first frost in a similar fashion. - We bought her in and had been told that she was vaccinated - we just gave her the booster. The muscle around the front shoulders and the heart went like tin foil.

First one to lose with blacklag in 30 years, will be up to scratcjh for it next time!

If you never had a history of blackleg is it safe to presume that cattle on your farm won't get it?

What vaccine are ye using? Is it so many cc/50kg under skin in front/behind shoulder?

I lost a bullock a few years ago in the spring, he was only bought in a week before. Any animals I buy in now are vaccinated the minute they arrive and they get a booster shot 6 wks after if the previous owner didn't give them a second shot as calves.

They can drop on the spot with it even if you checked an hour beforehand and they were normal.
