Laptop Battery in post = Dangerous Object

Sorry if this is the wrong forum for this so please move if its not the right place. I also know there is an older thread on this topic but I didn't want to revive and there have been changes it seems since then.

6 weeks ago I bought a new Sony Vaio laptop battery from an ebay seller in Glasgow. As his shipping rate to Ireland was pretty high I had it sent to relatives in Surrey to be forwarded on. 5 weeks passed and no parcel. Got a call today from the relatives to say it has been returned with packaging stating it is a dangerous object and an attempt to send it again will result in prosecution. I've only now found out about the new Civil Aviation Regs which are insane. Does anyone know how I can legally get this to Ireland without traveling to the UK

Whats worse is I have 6 more Vaio batteries (please don't ask, I have 3 Vaios and I'm on the road alot) which are with a friend in the USA which I fear I may now never get.

Any help, I'm seriously pissed off with threats of prosecution after Royal Mail sent me a laptop last month with the battery installed in it without issue.

Yep this is a problem with some postage companies. Things like flammables, Alcohol, batteries etc are pretty much blocked by Royal Mail and Parcelforce. You can get it to Ireland though with most couriers who have license/insurance for such items.

Best to avoid basic post companies.

    City-Link
is one I used a few months back for a laptop and tablet, no problems in the slightest :)

Check out parcel2go too (click the UK flag upper right). Their prohibited items list is here

You'll still probably have the same problem, Royal Mail won't delivery batteries to any areas outside the mainland UK.

as the poster says above, City Link sent 2 in different deliveries to me a few months back from a laptop battey supplier in the UK. They were using Target Express for Irish deliveries then don't know who they are using now....
