Build issue, atx12v cable

Hi all, just got my first build to post (you should see the smug head on me). One issue that I though I might get some advice on though. The atx12v cable seems a bit short, it has to run straight to the top of the mobo and this means it rubs off the copper heat conductor on the gpu (which I doubt is good). It is too short to run through the back of the box. If I flip the psu over (fan vent facing upwards into the cabinet) if may give me an extra inch to work with, is this okay?

I had the exact same problem.
Looks so much better when you route it around the back.
Just make sure the extension you buy is long enough.

Edit: too late, the cable Serephucus posted is braided which is nice :)

Cheers guys that will do the job nicely! Just on a side note with the psu, do you recommend facing in downwards towards the vent or am I okay facing it upwards?

I would go with downwards to blow the hot air out of the case even though the other way around would probably be fine too.

Depends on the surface that the case will be sitting on. I wouldn't put it face down if the case will be on a carpet, for example.

Will flip it over until I get the extension and then put it back later so. Appreciate the advice.

It will be on Lino, which with my housemates cleaning habits gets fairly dusty

I think dust should not be a problem as the fan is blowing outwards.

Because it cannot really be safely cleaned by the average person, and would be expected to last a longer than most other components, the PSU itself could get clogged up over time in a dusty environment, so fan up might be better for the PSU in that scenario, all the moreso if the case is filtered.

As to the OPs original question I don't really believe it much matters which way it is orientated, as I've never seen any good evidence that it makes a whole lot of difference one way or the other. In theory the cooler air a downward facing fan provides ought to help the PSU operate more efficiently, on the other hand an upwards facing one may help increase case airflow slighly, by increasing negative pressure within the case.

Only one thing is certain, the topic has been the subject of many a endless tech forum argument. :)
