Does anyone on here have one or used one before? If so how did you find it? Does anyone know of any in use in gyms etc to try one out?

I am in the market for a new indoor trainer and the wattbike is something i am considering along with 2/3 others.

Tried one in a Cycling Ireland test a couple of years ago. The level of information was good and as stationary bikes go it was fine. More similar to a normal bike than most gym bikes.
Not sure where you are but I think Fehily's gym in Ballincollig in Cork has one.

Well if British Cycling helped develop it and endorse it ...

A great (if expensive) piece of kit - make sure you try the Pro rather than Trainer

It gives you plenty of data to work with, both in-ride and in subsequent analysis. It's about an accurate a powermeter as there is, with no calibration required. It provides full analysis of the pedal stroke, allowing you to focus on improving any weaknesses

It's particularly good at training for pursuits and TTs which would definitely be beneficial for triathletes. You can measure yourself against others through the Wattbike Ranking over various disciplines. Most importantly it can be used to very accurately track progress

The main thing it cannot replicate is getting up to speed (there is very little inertia to overcome), but if you want to test the likes of FTP it is ideal

It's a very heavy piece of kit - fine to move around (in my case) the garage as it has a couple of wheels, but it would be a complete pain to move between different locations

The Tacx VR sits alongside it in the garage nowadays basically unused, as I can probably get as much out of a 40 minute session on the Wattbike as I would typically get out of an hour on the VR, given it encourages more structured training

You will see from their website that a whole host of non-cyclists use them - world class athletes, rowers etc

    How much are they?

Current list price £2,250 - it was a bit cheaper when I got mine, and then I got some of discount

I bought directly from Wattbike, but I believe someone now imports them into Ireland

They are certainly targeted more at sports clubs than individuals
