More espensive to run in terms of fuelling, but cheaper on servicing and less to go wrong, also they sound better.

I know afew lads with Diesel vRS's and you would swear they owned a skyline they way the rave about how quick they are

They would cost a bit more on fuel alright. But a similar year/spec diesel would cost about 3 grand more.

i dont really do that many miles.

True, yet the petrol one is quicker.
They're not bad at all to be fair, I'd say go for one.

Not quite as nice as the Golf GTi to drive, but generally cheaper and higher spec.

The first one looks like a UK import, and they usually have a lower specification than the Irish versions. That Nav system is an aftermarket unit so god knows how well it works.

The Second one was probably one of the first in to Ireland - think they only started coming in at the start of 06 and that's a low reg number.

Yes spot on. The first one is a UK import and the second one was one of the first in Ireland.

Does anyone know if the gearbox is the same as the mk v GTI?

No pics on Interior for the second one ... that would put me off.

Great car have the blue 2006 one and doesnt even have as much spec as those 2 mine was originally from uk.

Love the car and never kept a car as long have it over 3 years.
    Great looking car absolute stunner.
Comfortable to drive, lots of space especially the boot fits loads of bodies :D
Only probem I had was the ecu lost its memory so that cost a lot to replace.

Great sound and car doesnt need any modifying the one thing I would love it to have is 4x4 as there is too much power to front wheels god they have got so cheap.

Depends on which Skyline you are talking about. :D:D

TBF close on 150mph from a diesel is nothing to laugh at :P

    @ OP
Those petrol ones are a lovely car and are not so bad on petrol either.
You probably would be better off asking over on VAG drivers or Autostadt as some drivers over there would be would have been owners of these and would advise from experience. ;)

150mph is great don't get me wrong but it's the fun and the noise too tbh, the 2 litre FSI is a nice sounding engine but the diesel is a diesel at the end of the day :)

I can understand why alot of people opt for it though

    How much do these weigh?
They'd want to be fairly light to be the rocket ships that people make them out to be.

Probably the same as a Golf GTI. I'd guess around 1500kg.

They are a golf gti in disguise;) The Octavia is quicker in reverse by 1mph

They will do a top speed of 147mph petrol ones

    0-60 is 7.2 sec

Clever marketing, I work on ads for Skoda, it's heavily aimed towards badge loving rural people who'd be inclined to have strong brand loyalties, the people who'd only buy Toyota or Hunters Wellies. "Love Your Skoda" was one of the more recent ads I worked on, no pictures, just the badge.

The whole cheap car tax thing is simply irresistible when it comes to some people and they will justify the initial outlay by claiming they are just as quick as petrol counterparts when they could have bought a second hand or older petrol car, truth be told, they want a newer reg. Snobbery plays a massive part.

You really have to admire the VAGroup. From a Czech communist bloc manufacturer to what they are now, amazing turn around.
