Sorry if this has been done before, but with recessionary times afoot, I thought I'd open a nice 'aul thread to remind us of bygone times when we all had money to burn or wipe our arses with. So fellow boardsies, what's the most amount of money you ever squandered?

I can't hink of any particular stories atm (see what I did there <-- ) but, I'll get back to you all with one when I do.

    €14000 on horses.
€1400 on an Alfa that fell to bits.
€1300 on an electric bike. Haven't used it in months, but it's perfect for getting rid of hills and wind.

    Need I keep going?

I was out of control during the boom.

Not needless spending, but when building the house the electrician talked me into those fooking downlighters...the bastids keep blowing, and now i need to save to get them out. they cost 800, just for the kitchen alone.

I wasn't bitten by the tiger, so have to say, the recession isn't really affecting me.

Most of it actually went on the hotel stay in a top hotel in Dublin for the week, then I was out partying all night, I was a ridiculous tipper too, lol, I didn't do anything like gambling or drugs or hookers, but I had an absolute ball at the same time, some great memories!

I've spent a lot of money on stuff i enjoyed over the years, music equipment, drugs ect so i wont say i wasted it. I do remember spending nearly a £100 on a pair of white Nike sunglasses, wtf was i thinking. Oh i also lost about 6 grand on cars.

....not necessarily - if you bought it as an investment, then yes, but if you moved into it in 2005, and are still living there, then not a waste, as you would have had to pay to live somewhere no?

€350 on a bass guitar having never played before, thought I was gonna be the next Paul McCartney (yes I'm that sad). Could only learn the bass line for "another one bites the dust" and "TNT" after about a year. So then I realised I wasn't a bass prodigy and sold it for €150 in the first music shop I walked into, man I'm an idiot.

Does anyone know anybody who bought one of those Bulgarian properties?

You were a "nobody" if you didn't invest in foreign property! I remember the adverts just before the bubble burst advertising properties in major cities in the states even!

It just made me reminiscent of the timeshare properties in Spain sham during the 80's!

Bought a jacket for €180 reduced from €250 thinking I was getting a bargain. Lost it on a night out soon after and I liked it so much I bought it again for €160. I don't even wear it now and I spent €340 overall on it:rolleyes:

I'll PM you the next time I'm up there, I'm not much of a one for foreign travel though-

Went to Corfu a couple of years back and between an over-ripe melon from a beach seller (before I saw the "do not buy fruit from beach sellers" sign), a tiny bath that you had to sit in (at least I think it was a bath!), and a battered squid going down the wrong way which led to a burly Greek waiter giving me the heimlich manoeuver... put me right off foreign travel, I said I'd leave it to my wife, who just goes abroad with her family now, while I do the "getting away from it all" thing on my own!

I have a friend who wants me to come over to visit her in New York and I'd love to go just to see all the sights and stuff, but I'm thinking knowing my luck with foreign travel, it wouldn't bode well! My wife's brother is getting married in Scotland in February and I'm dreading that too!
