I'm a bit disappointed - wanted to see it on the O'Meara with the new holes. Still though, it'll be great to have it near Dublin again. Any sort of reasonable weather and the Monty will make for an interesting test.

Harrington ain't too good on the geography. Reading in the rte news website that he is glad that the Irish open is back in his hometown Dublin?
Better book those four days off work. Looking forward to it.

The ticket prices are very reasonable. I might try and attend the whole thing!

Just bought my tickets today, great value, I believe they will be increasing in price from the 31st December so anyone planning on going may want to buy their tickets soon.

You wouldn't buy off the official site?

Everything near Dublin event-wise is down as Dublin, its annoying.

    Any good tips for accommodation?

I'll be travelling up from Cork. No definate plan yet but probably something like travel early Friday morning and spend the day at the golf, stay Friday night and spend the full Saturday at the golf and head back to Cork that night.

So probably looking at one nights accommodation on the Friday. Not too familiar with the area so any tips or places to consider?

Played the Monte course in a national competition, never played a practise round, big mistake.
118 bunkers on the course, 100 were put in and the saying is that Colin hit a ball off every tee, and wherever it landed, another bunker was put in. Think I had 25 points only. I must have been in a bunker on every hole, they are in the middle of the fairways even, so the Irish Open should be very exciting this year, and if your having a bet, I feel it will suit a steady player that doesn't hit the ball too long, and is a good bunker player.

I will be travelling up for the thursday

Does anyone know if you need tickets for the practice day on Wednesday? Went to the Wednesday up in Baltray and was great as not as many people around and got to follow/ see lots of different players.

Looks like the pro Am is on the Weds. And tickets for that are 11 euros.

Anybody playing in the pro am ?? :-)

Carton house had a competition where your best scores were taken as qualifiers for a final with the overall prize being a place in the pro am.

That's some saying that. My second-hand experience of Monty is that he visits his "designs" on average about 3 times each, one of which is usually the opening.

Let's just say he isn't the most involved.

Without googling, does anyone know who actually designed the course? Just interested to gauge awareness

    Oh Chr*st,
Sky wouldn't bring Monty into the studio for this would they!!!
    That would be unbearable.
