Saxo Tinkoff In/ Katusha Out

So Nico Roche will be part of a World Tour Team after Saxo Tinkoff were awarded their World Tour licence at what appears to be the expense of Katusha.

With the world number 1 cyclist of 2012 in the team they obviously have enough points so it is suggested they failed to meet the criteria on other grounds, anyone got any info on this???

Seems the UCI might have an issue with Vino being team manager, yet they don't have an issue with Riis. :rolleyes:

Well apparently Rodriguez ain't signed a contract with the team yet, so does that exclude his points? That's all I can come up with.

Unless you wanna be cynical and say the UCI took the easy way out and excluded Katusha knowing they'll get invites everywhere anyways and means saxo-tinkoff can have a licence?

Probably. I'm hoping Roche is kept away from the leader's role though. I want him in breakaways and winning stages.
At least for a year. Win a few big stages and then he can go back for shooting for top tens in GT's

Serious goings on against Katusha

They have not been given a wild card for the giro, it seems very strange, first no world tour licence andnow no wildcard either. Makes you wonder if UCI and others know something that joe bloggs doesnt

The Court of Arbitration for Sport has upheld Team Katusha's appeal of the UCI's decision not to issue the Russian team a WorldTour licence.

"According to the CAS decision, the application of Katusha Management SA to be registered as a UCI ProTeam for the season 2013 of the UCI World Tour is granted."

"The grounds for the decision will be released "in a few weeks"", CAS stated.

So will J Rod stay with Katusha now?

This could well result in Saxo-Tinkoff losing their license, could be very bad news for Roche. Uci's own rules don't allow for 19 teams. In the words of the comedy fool duo Pat and Hein, "Another fine mess you've got me into!"

I cant see that happening - there would be the mother of all court cases kicking off if it did - and in any case, they will continue in the meantime 'under appeal'.

I suspect an "accommodation" will be reached for 2013, and this will be finally sorted over next winter. Gerald Vroomen wrote a good piece about it on his blog yesterday .
