Interview with a twist

Wondering if anyone has experienced this before and what you did ? I have an interview for a job I applied for months ago and the thing is I don't have the details of the job nor can I find it on the site I applied through. So I'm a little at a loss !!

Its likely like the work I normally do, should I go and wing it ?? I spoke to them about it on the phone and tried to get more info but couldn't push it.

In fairness, you applied to it months ago, how can any job expect you to know all the exact details months later!

Ring them, and ask to speak to someone about it! There is no need to be ashamed, or embarrassed! You would be better off doing that, rather than going in without a clue, that would look worse!

I did a second time but came away from the conversation no better off. I was fishing for a job spec but I don't think he had it.

All you have to do is ring again or email and ask for a FULL job spec. This is normal practice so it wouldn't sound unprofessional.

Ask them for a job spec is all you can do really. If it not available to you then you have to go get it from them. Ring or email them requesting a job spec/details. You have to prepare for an interview as each interview is different regardless of the role you being interviewed for. Its not possible to wing it without knowledge of the job role as questions will be based on that as well as what other likely questions/cv or application/competency type questions as well.

Best to get everything covered. You could be prepared and still end up having to wing it and interviewers will know if you are winging it! So best not too!

The interview was this morning. In the end last night I matched it up with a job that was in the same location that I thought might be it. Most of my work is the same field so it wouldn't have been too hard to wing it.

This is where it gets interesting. I arrive at the office and first thing hits me is its very tidy and quiet, not at all like companies I would normally work. There doesn't seem to be many people around and it just doesn't look like the type of place with a high foot fall of staff, somewhere where they would need the likes of me. There were just a lot of certifications for the industry on the walls of reception and some very large country flags.

Fast forward to me being brought into a very nice office for the interview. The guy interviewing me looked down through my cv and picked the first one of my skills. I got the impression he didn't know what it was but it was trying to use it to his advantage either way. He told me about the company, what they did etc and then proceeded to say he thinks I would be a perfect fit for a sales position they have !! I pointed him back to my CV and told him that he can clearly see that I have a technical background and I'm not a sales rep. This went on for a few minutes and at this stage he wanted me to sit in on an induction class that was going on. He knew when I turned this down he was rumbled and we called it a day.

It reminded me of those door to door sales teams they operated out of Dublin 7 a couple of years back but on a more corporate scale. Why get a guy that has 12 years IT experience in for a sales job !! I was so glad to be out of that place in the end. God knows what was going on behind those eerily clean doors.
