WLAN repeater

Firstly a homeplug uses mains wiring to send the internet around the house.

A WLAN repeater receives a wireless signal, and resends the signal a second time itself. It is only used where you can get no wireless signal, and you want to extend the coverage of an existing wifi signal. Ideally you mount the repeater half way between the old access point and the area with no signal. The repeater MUST be placed in an area with a signal for it to work.

However in general I would not recommend them. They often don't work with your existing wifi gear (depending on make), they are normally very slow in reality (they basically half your internet speed at least) and in most cases people don't use them for the right reasons. They should only be used as a final straw for areas with no signal what so ever.

For use with a humax, then no. A humax would need a wireless receiver. More to the point wireless is never recommended, a cable would be best. Also I don't think some of those "players" work in the Republic of Ireland at all, -best to check.

Also in general those homeplugs work better than wifi, however they can cause radio interference and if you are using UPC for internet then they can upset UPC or even ordinary landline based internet. A cable is always going to be better and faster.
