Lads was out for club spin yesterday morning about 8 of us and weather was kinda messy with spots of rain and drizzle ,roads were wet and messy and when I came home i noticed my gear was all black marks so thought normal machine wash would sort this out but unfortunately not the case .Gear destroyed with all black spots like grease and these marks are mailnly on the front of the gear .Not sure is is up off the road or off bike this came .Any one come across this before .Thanks

If it is trace off grease from the drivetrain, it will be tricky to remove it :(.

As a matter of interest, did all your friends have their mudguards on?

Mudguards definitely help with gritted/satly roads in this weather. I've not oiled my chain in weeks and it's not washed off.

Concerning the mudgaurds -some have them on and some dont have them on .Will wash again later at higher temperture and see if it improves .Thanks

I would have though no mudguards, no joining in policy was with most clubs? Not very nice of someone to tag along in a group ride without adequate mudguards!

I'm not sure you'll ever get those stains out. My boards Jersey has black spots on the white section at the back after a wet spin over 6 months ago and they are still there after many washes.

I think the stains are oil from the road surface from cars, trucks etc. rather than chain oil as I use Teflon wet lube which always washes clean when it drips on the carpet. :D

Might be easier not oiling the chain in the sitting room :P

yea must be oil or greae off the road as when I think back now there was one area of road that had oil spillage on it and suppose at that time lad in front of me had no mudguard.Gave gear another wash at highe temp and came out bit better but still very bad looking ,bit of a pain really.thanks for info
