Bulk buying wine for wedding??

    Hello there all.

I'm looking to buy 80 - 100 bottles of wine for a wedding in the new year.
Have any of you any advice on how to approach bulk buying wine?

Here is my dilema. The hotel is looking to charge us 19.50 per bottle including corkage.
Myself and the other half have decided it might be best to just buy our own wine. Corkage works out at 8 euro. In order to make any considerable savings we will have to find decent wine under 11.50euro.

Would bulk buying with tesco be the best bet? Any help would be appreciated. Should have looked into this a lot earlier

    Hi,

Google wedding wines and it will give you a list of shops and websites who all do wedding wine packages. all would have packages to suit your budget im sure.

all the usuals will come up winesonline, corkscrew, winesdirect, o'briens etc.

you should be able to get something in time.

Also you should act fast before they stick on the extra euro if they haven't already.

What you could do is go to tesco when they have their 25% off sale (of 6 bottles or more)
and buy a good wine that is reduced, and then you get a further 25% off.

You could end up getting a fantastic wine for a fantastic price.
The Tesco 25% offer is on today (monday 10th Dec).. i'm not sure if it will still be going tomorrow,

(also Tesco haven't added the extra €1 duty on to its prices yet)

    Thanks for your reply ppl.

Did a bit of research today!

I have being informed the following would be decent wine. All for 8euro. With the 25% off = 6euro.

    Mcg Bl Merlot 75Cl....http://www.tesco.ie/groceries/Product/Details/?id=253238130

    Mcg Bl Shiraz 75Cl..... http://www.tesco.ie/groceries/Product/Details/?id=253237874

    Mcg Bl Chardonnay 75Cl... http://www.tesco.ie/groceries/Product/Details/?id=253238308

    Mcguigan Black Label Pinot Grigio75cl....http://www.tesco.ie/groceries/Product/Details/?id=259328193

Have you any opinions on these wines?

Although they are displayed at 8euro I have being informed they were 7euro last week. How sure are we that the 1 euro increase has not already being applied at tesco?

    Thanks again for your replies.

Look up North. Asda or Sainsburys do some great wines and also do 25% off if you buy 6 deals.

OP, you should check in with the hotel and ask if they will get in an alternative to their house wine that you would like; it may save you a lot of hassle. A supermarket or wine off licence will be more than willing to sell you rakes of wine but you'd have to ensure it will be in stock just when you want it; this is 6 crates each of red and white to allow for people's choices, spills, breakages etc. Also you will need to get it moved from shop to hotel; it will take a few hours close to the big day when you will have enough to fret about; bear this in mind.

Probably too late since it's already booked but since the recession hit, there are plenty of wedding venues that forgo corkage simply to get bums on seats.

You probably haven't the time now, but for a friends wedding my mother brewed a couple of batches at home - much nicer than you might expect. Would easily equal a 10-15 euro wine, at a cost of about 1-2 euro a bottle. And with custom labels it was a nice touch. I'm not exactly sure how the law would have treated the situation though...

Not sure about the legalities... As long as it's not being sold it's fine but it's also for personal consumption so maybe as long as the person who made the wine is there enjoying it with family and friends, it's fine.

Can't say that for certain though.

Whatever about a couple of them, I can't see a hotel being too happy with somebody bringing in 100 bottles of home brew :)

Went for all of above with tesco for 6euro a bottle yest on the last day of offer. 576euro for 96 bottles. Missus to be managed to get the hotel corkage down to 6 euro per bottle. ended up saving approx 7.50euro per bottle bringing in our own wine. Thanks for all your recommendations. Happys days.
