say I was to put in a halfords/LIDL/ALDI car stereo into my car, whats the story with the wiring

would I have to cut off all the plugs that the original wiring is attached to and reattach these wires using the plugs that come with the aftermarket radio

or do all radios take the same plugs?

What car do you have, and what stereo is in there now?

He had an 05 corolla before with a dodgy stereo.

In that case you'll need a fair adaptor (€30) and a loom adaptor (€20)

I'd either get the original repaired or get a replacement from a scrapyard.

The wiring is done through junction box's so you just unplug the boxes belonging to the current radio and plug in the new one, sometimes it requires an adaptor kit but these can be picked up fairly cheaply

The 05 Corolla uses model 58814 or 58816 which is a very large radio. By replacing it with an aftermarket unit you will loose clock, outside temp and other bits. Your best bet is to source a replacement from a breakers yard or get the original repaired.
