Hi all, just found the following e-mail from a friend, who, let me add, is far more up to speed re computers than I am.Has anyone else heard anything about it?
    VIRUS COMING!
    Hi All,
I checked with Norton Anti-Virus, and they are gearing up for this virus!
I checked Snopes, and it is for real. Get this E-mail message sent around to your contacts ASAP.
PLEASE FORWARD THIS WARNING AMONG FRIENDS, FAMILY AND CONTACTS!
You should be alert during the next few days. Do not open any message with an attachment
entitled POSTCARD FROM HALLMARK, regardless of who sent it to you.
It is a virus which opens A POSTCARD IMAGE, which 'burns' the whole hard disc C of your computer.
This virus will be received from someone who has your e -mail address in his/her contact list.
This is the reason you need to send this e -mail to all your contacts. It i s better to receive this
message 25 times than to receive the virus and open it.
If you receive an email entitled"POSTCARD," even though it was sent to you by a friend, do not open it!
Shut down your computer immediately. This is the worst virus a nnounced by CNN.
It has been classified by Microsoft as the most destructive virus ever.
This virus was discovered by McAfee yesterday, and there is no repair yet for this kind of Virus.
This virus simply destroys the Zero Sector of the Hard Disc, where the vital information is kept.
COPY THIS E-MAIL AND SEND IT TO YOUR FRIENDS.
REMEMBER: IF YOU SEND IT TO THEM, YOU WILL BENEFIT ALL OF US

LOL Welcome to the internet, you must be very new around here..

I can also tell you to never open anything that says lemonparty or goatsee, and the Guy who wants to share his massive gold or inheritance from nigeria or similar is also a scammer. Sharing photos of sick kids on facebook doesnt actually get them a penny, its a sick joke also which has evolved from your almost 20 year old virus alert e-mail.

OP in case you are not familiar with Snopes mentioned in the warning you can check it or the other sites which identify hoaxes if you get this sort of stuff again.

Scared of viruses? They are almost exclusively aimed at MS Windows computers and operating systems. Change to Apple (expensive) or even better, Linux (free), problem over.

This is not necessarily true. All OS's are vulnerable. linux is really vulnerable Apple is for gullible twats.

I did say almost exclusively aimed at windows. I have no problems with viruses on linux, no constant scanning, updating definitions.......MS Windows is the main focus of the virus vermin.
Windows, like Sky, is for the uninformed, or those tied into it's overpowering marketing spin and expensive apps and software.

Anyway, we are way off the topic of foreign satellite here.

And Apple is for the experts who are immune to marketing and never buy expensive apps and software.

    Right...

Well given that he uses Linux, I don't think he's making any claims as to what Apple is or isn't for....

Don't get me wrong, I love linux and use it daily. The control you get at the command line can't be beat. No good for gaming though and the driver support can be pretty hairy sometimes. This is just an unavoidable consequence of Open source non commercial software development. (My opinion). I've also had application updates break my system. Win 7 64 and linux in a VM. Bliss!

No os wars, please. I just said that viruses are mostly aimed at MS Windows. And as for Apple...never could afford their stuff.
None of them is perfect, but at least I don't pay for the privilege of having cranky software.
