People calling to the house offering alcohol now

I'm just changing this thread, sorry. The old idea was a non runner I think anyway.

You're at home with friends on a Saturday night, The door bell rings just after 10. You answer the door to find Pete. He's selling cocktails for 5e a pop!
There's 5 girls and 5 guys in your kitchen and you're playing a few drinking games.
Would you buy alcohol from Pete. Your booze is running dry remember. Also it will mean more stock for a session after you leave a nightclub.

Would you ever take up such a service calling to your door? 101 votes

    "The results are hidden"

That makes it a boring poll.

For arguments sake, we're charging 60euro for 30mins. No frills.

Would this have much potential to make good money?

Not at that price it won't Ted. For that kind of money I'd want nobody less than Mila Kunis calling to my door!

As market research goes for a new business though, this is pretty unique! Couldn't see it taking off though, it'd be like Domino's calling round to people's doors asking do they want pizza!

So you want us to call around to give you a ****?

I've got a boring pole waiting for all callers.:p

I'm actually wondering myself how my mind ended up here. The enterpreneur in me is clearing bursting to get out. Anyway, the ESB power (trust me on this) is about to go, so I think I'll leave the house.

There's probably more chance of them bricking up the doorway than offering a "service".

What about calling around on Saturdays offering pre bought alcohol! Now that would be good.
You've got a few friends over and it's just past 10. People are running short on drinks. The door bell rings, Pete calls to the door with a car stacked of booze. Surely that would sell!
Would it be legal. We'd have an account service and charges wouldn't take place until the following day.

They'd be very clean and be carrying ID.
But yea, I think people don't want to **** on their own doorstep as they say.

I think there's great potential in this new alcohol delivery service though.

Id much prefer a milkman type system, where you could have your beer delivered direct to your door each night for a fee :pac:

jeez isnt there enough street crime without inviting it on to our doorsteps! As it happens Im hard of hearing and might end up boffing a Jehovahs Witness...

Wow that's another great idea. But we'd need a safe to store it in. Kids in the middle of the night would always fleece you.

Eh you're doing it wrong. If you plan on staying in all night playing drinking games then you need to buy a ton of drink! Thats what I do.

Also in case of an emergency there is a chinese restaurant nearby that will sell us bottles of wine for take away long into the night. Its known as "the winese"

Finches deliver beer, its the greatest service man has invented.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,184 ✭✭✭3ndahalfof6

Way to many guys in the kitchen, you need to tell at least five of them to get the fook out,

now you have left an opening to invite pete in if he gives the booze for free, once you let him know about the 5 chicks you have in the kitchen.

now where is this party happening?

There are a couple of off licences I know that deliver booze. You have to go down to the shop in the first place to set up an account so they'll deliver and there's a largish delivery fee but it works.

I for one despise people coming around to my door selling ****. It's not the 1950s for christsakes.

I will make a point of avoid product/services/companies who send sales reps door to door.

I guess if you're already too rat-arsed to drive/walk to the offy for more booze then this could be useful. I've never heard of it around here though.

Ive had Vodafone, Hanly fuc**ng centre, Eircom, and Sky salespeople turn up at my door after 8pm in the last 2 weeks.

Look up theres a Sky dish above your f**king head you twat.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 737 ✭✭✭Jezek

Nope, creepy as hell, I never answer the door to people I don't know/haven't asked to come round. Off-licences deliver, and you'll have the same obligations as them to the law, so they already have the advantage. Plus if I'm running low on alcohol Ill make sure I am buying some, I'lll order or run to the offie, who would wait for a creepy alcohol man to come round?

If you're not drunk this is a piss-poor idea.

My local off licence delivers at a much more reasonable rate :)

maybe try delivering pizza first and see how that goes

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,207 ✭✭✭longhalloween

I remember there was a service in the US where you'd call up and place an order for anything, they'd go out and buy it then deliver it to your door 24 hours a day.

Don't think it lasted long though.

Delivering alcohol 24/7 - Our local Russian Mafia do this. I'm sure they'd be glad of some friendly competition, the way business folk say "competition keeps everyone on their toes".

On the other hand, they might just break your fingers, car windows, legs etc till you get the hint to desist. You never know till you try. Also, giving drunk strangers credit and going back the next day to collect money sounds foolproof. Almost no chance of anyone not even remembering who you are. What about just opening a normal Pizza take-away?

    Is that what shilling is?
I thought it was only if I was actually trying to sell something. :o

How dare you question the rulez! :D It's not crap, it's there for a reason. (I might be twisting the context there a bit)
People tend to hate doorstep sellers anyway, if they wanted somthing, they'd call and ask for it, and I'm fairly sure you need a licence to sell booze. And I'm also fairly sure some other people already sell Pizza you can phone up and get delivered.

Ted if you're actually serious, then I hope you don't mind me asking but what is it you're ACTUALLY passionate about? That's what you should go into business in, not some hair brained get rich quick scheme idea. There are numerous, numerous resources and support out there for budding entrepreneurs like yourself that have an idea but don't know where to start, and it's all right in front of your fingertips! There's even a fantastic resource here on boards, The Entrepreneurial and Business forum-

    http://touch.boards.ie/forum/106

and some more to give you some ideas-

Sounds like you are using boards.ie as a tester for a nixer you have in mind. Which I'll be honest. Dont look to boards for answers. Just do it. Make as much as you can.

I don't think the OP means off licenses delivering alcohol think he means like an actual bar servant in waistcoat and dickie bow knocking at your door offering "a round of shots gentlemen" ?

It's quite a amusing sight thinking about it but best of luck anyway, make sure it's opt in rather than opt out. My pensioner parents don't want door to door bar service knocking at 10pm

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,455 ✭✭✭Where To

You need a licence to sell alcohol Teddy.

    Terrible idea.

If I want alcohol I'll have it in the house. Simples. I've never been in a position like that and I wouldn't pay pub prices for one drink from some guy at the door.

    It's weird.

I know of two people who do this,One is actually a milkman who has slabs of cans in his van he also sells alco and spirit bottles.,As he is doing his milk rounds from 12 to 5/6 you can just ring him and he will deliver,He is doing this a few years now.The garda know he does it to and have turned a blind eye to it.

Frig that OP. Someone would start making their own spirits cheap and forget to remove the methanol. Cue hundreds dead from methanol poisoning.

You should use a Ghostbusters ambulance type car as your delivery vehicle, if you cant get one of these an old hearse would do
