How can Israel trust Palestinians when Hamas make statements like this?

"Palestine is ours from the river to the sea and from the south to the north. There will be no concession on an inch of the land... We will never recognise the legitimacy of the Israeli occupation and therefore there is no legitimacy for Israel, no matter how long it will take."

So said Khaled Meshaal, leader of Hamas, in an open air rally held in Gaza today (08 December 2012).

Hamas claims 500,000 people were present at today's rally.

How can Israel trust the Palestinians when they elect in the Gaza strip an organisation like Hamas, which makes such inflammatory statement?

Of the 7.3 million people living in Israel, 5,131,900 are Israeli-born Jews.

They were born in that state, they make up a huge majority and therefore they have more of a right to decide the future of Israel than anyone born outside of Israel.

No one is defending the many deaths of Palestinians in recent weeks. However, when a neighbour makes comments about your country like this, it is quite understandable that Israel would be defensive.

If Palestinians want their statehood to be recognised, they need to distance themselves from the statements of Khaled Meshaal and stop turning up in their hundreds of thousands to cheer him on.

How can Palestinian's trust Israeli's when 3 of the current coalition parties, including the biggest party, Likud, claim all land from Sanai to Jordan, the Golan Hights and southern Lebanon as Israeli land and refuse to recognise the rights of Palestinian people on Palestinian lands?

It's a ****ing two way street.

100% true. Both leaderships are as bad as each other

But too many people in Ireland are apologists for Hamas

It's the same in Ireland with the 6 counties. People will never recognise that those counties are not Irish.

It's probably because they are Irish counties.

The UK gave Palestine's land to the Jewish people to create a country. Palestine wants it back. How difficult is it to understand this? The Jewish people have no entitlement to that land.

What about the circa 7million Palestinian refugee's in Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and Egypt, who under international law, are fully entitled to return to their homes, which they were forced out of (which is ethnic cleansing, no matter how you spin it) in the last 60 years?

Would swing the balance, especially when added to the 1.1 million people in Gaza and the rest of them in The West Bank...

Long story short, "Israeli's", legally, should be the minority in Palestine, not a majority in "Israel".

Not all Palestinians are in Hamas. Not everyone in Hamas is from Palestine.
