my trek 1.2 currently has sora breaks, which tbh i find ****e. just wondering is it possible to change the breaks to 105/ultegra etc easily, i know sora gears arnt compatable with anything about tiagra....is this the same with breaks?

Yes, you can change out to whatever you want, as long as they are brakes....
Check your pads first, maybe get new cables, as new calipers won't make a huge difference ....

I changed from 105s to Planet-X's own design ones (the cheaper, forged ones), and found them to be better in terms of power and modulation-ability. They look way cooler too...

are all break pads the same? for example can i get shimano 105 or higher pads and use them on my current breaks?

My wife has sora brakes, I changed the pads to ultegra cartridge pads, much better braking than the sora, much cheaper than new calipers.

Have to agree, I have a sora front and tiagra rear, no difference between the two in terms of braking once decent pads are used.

Op, make sure your cables are tensioned and the brake pads aligned close to the rim

Swisstop pads roughly €30 but well worth it

    'Brake.'

Also, I second the swissstop suggestion provided you've checked your cables and calipers and all that. Koolstop are also well good.

+1 on swisstop pads, but still very important to readjust your brakes as the pads wear down. Cleaning the rims every so often doesn't hurt either.
