I have a 1990 399 with the 6.354 engine, finding her hard started since i bought it, put in the following
    2 new batteries
    high speed starter,
    new heater plugs
    had diesel pump done recently.

She is a little bit smokey in smaller sheds, to be honest it would poision ya

It can agigtate for the day no problem, doesnt heat up

Is there anything else i can do to make it easier started,

when ours was hard to start it could either be diesel blocked, helper pump was great for holding dirt that got past filters, but if u have plenty of smoke then diesel not the problem, did u get a heavy duty heater and is the fuel getting to it, we used to turn it over for about 5 secs then heat for 30 the turn for 20, before reheating for 15.

ours was fumy too, bit hard to start but once u got to know it was fine, 390 is the same in winter heavy frost-if it starts at all:mad:, reconed engine too in it

Fitted new filters last year and took the tank off and cleaned it. I didnt get heavy duty heater plugs. If you spend a long time heating it kicks off fine. havent really timed it.

Had a 390T before that, could leave it sit for 2wks and would kick off in a half turn, have a 4360 with high speed starter...a dream to start aswell, almost jumps on the concrete. 6 cyl all the way!

It was suggested before to alter the timing, would make it easier started but a bit smokier. I believe the engine is in good shape so im reluctant to go recondition the engine for it.

Do you have an isolater switch fitted they get worn and restrict the current to the starter. regarding the hi speed starter their is a brand called iskra and they have a 4.2 kw version part no (IS 1159).
had a 390t that was a bitch to start fitted one yesterday different tractor today.
