Toyota Auris or Hyundai i30

My old Corolla is going like a new car but and I have the option of holding on to it for another year or two. However, I am considering a newer model and having had several Corollas I would like to try something different. Here is my shortlist:

2012 Avensis diesel (a bit out of my price range)

New Auris Terra 1.33 5Dr (Tempting)

New Auris Luna 1.33 5Dr (Lovely car with many extras but a bit too pricy)

New Hyundai 1.4 Petrol Classic (Good price, 3 year warranty - can be extended to 5, impressive vehicle. Not many petrol models sold?)

New Hyundai 1.4 dsl Classic (Good price and 3 year warranty - can be extended to 5, cheaper than Toyota Luna. Nice car to drive)

2012 Hyundai 1.4 dsl with 20,000 km on clock. Cheaper than any of the above options and a lovely car. Can still get 4½ year warranty, low road tax)

I drive about 12 – 15K miles per year, mostly on short to medium journeys. Always thought that the extra cost of buying a diesel vehicle would not be justified at this mileage. Most people who buy Hyundai seem to go for the diesel option.

Which of the above is the best value in terms of price, running costs, resale value and most importantly, reliability?

Have you looked at the Kia Ceed? It's basically an i30 underneath and has a 7 year warranty.

BTW I though all Hyundais had a 5 year warranty as standard these days.

The Auris Terra doesn't even have air conditioning incredible that we're almost in 2013 and they STILL don't fit a/c as standard to this car!

To get an Aura (which has a/c) is a minimum of €21k.

Have a look at the pricing now that the VRT has changed thanks to the budget - most cars will have gone up by some bit.

Ah fcuk off I thought everything down to Panda had a/c no wonder so many are buying Kias and Hyundais. Christ even Golfs have a/c as far as I know from Baseline.

As said before i30 or ceed. The auris was disappointing 5 years ago and things have moved on considerably. Even an old model i30 comprehensively outclasses the auris.

New model Auris is a world apart from the old model, its actually quite decent to drive and just let down by the engine being a bit lacking for any decent performance, and It's still off the pace for plastics.

Worth a look if the price stacks up though.

Just looked at the specs for the terra and the only stuff added from the original 2007 spec seems to be

    DRLs (requirement)
    VSC (requirement)
    Remote audio

    Progress eh?

New Auris is a much sharper car. Waaay better looking and a super drive. Diesel is the way to go though, 1.33 is a dead duck.

and most importantly, reliability? Either , although I would lean towards Toyota

    IMHO

I know nothing about cars but my dad has just bought his second i30. He does 160km a day to/from work. Both diesel models. He never had a problem with the first i30 and going back to get a second one must say something (other than the fact he is boring and has no imagination!)

1.4 with 90hp is hardly amazing though, it had 90hp when it came out in the old model corolla in 2004

Must drive one of these new ones for the craic
