With the temperature drop recently can anyone recommend a product that will prevent car door seals freezing over night?

I would imagine if you put a light amount of vaseline where the seal meets the door when closed it would prevent it from sticking when conditions are freezing.

A bit of tyre dressing or even wd40 or at a push maybe cooking oil to lubricate them will do the trick dry them off first.

Remember there can be up to three seals two on the door and one on the body

This is the stuff you need.

Vaseline will attract dust and dirt to stick to the seals.

I use a silicone base spray lubricant like this 3-IN-ONE product.

I don't spray it directly on the seals instead I spray it on a cloth and then wipe down the rubber seals.

Thanks 3-IN-ONE Silicone should be perfect

I was thinking about using vaseline or wd40 but they are petroleum based and will destroy the rubber over time

Silicone spray is the job, always use it. As said already, use a cloth or kitchen paper -- you will over apply otherwise. Ripping off door seals is a pain in the behind.

Better still might be Halfords Silicone Lubricant 400ml which seems to be designed for the job.

I'd use it in preference to the 3-IN-ONE Silicone but is probably harder to get hold of.

Apparently silicone oils destroys natural rubber, if the seals contain any natural rubber it leaches in and drives out the natural resins.

So does anyone know how much (if any) natural rubber is used in door seals?

Spray oils as in WD-40 is different than silicone for plastic and rubber if thats what your on about. As for how much natural rubber is in door seals I haven't a bulls notion.

Petroleum jelly corrodes latex..... That's a kayaking reference before the digs..... :) can't imagine it being any better on door seals.
