Unless your going to get a job with a gearbox specialist i wouldnt bother. We strip the box out ourselfs then send it out to be recond.
Id more concentrate on the disassemblly of the gearbox from the engine and car and then reassemblly.

I am not lucky to land at one yet, the main purpose I want strip the gearbox because I never did a gearbox change before I want to know the work invloved in stripping a gearbox and have a basic knowledge of the parts in the gearbox if I ever have to do one I wont be total stupid and I alaways like taking on a challange I never done or seeing it before,

Doubt you will ever rebuild one tho. I must have changed dozens of gearboxs in the past couple of months never mind years and ive never needed or attempted to rebuild one at home. The only box we send out to be recond is the automatic transmissions. Most of the other time is bang in a second hand on.

Just on the knowing how it works its fairly straightforward and should be plenty of info online.
If you need any advice id gladly help you.
