Does anyone receive freeview ( as well as saorview) in this area? If so what device do you use to do so?

I could be proven wrong, but it is unlikely that Freeview (UK terrestrial service) is being received reliably in Blackrock - maybe with a high gain external antenna at a considerable height.

Your best bet for UK stations would be a satellite dish - with a choice of box : free to air, Freesat (UK service branded), or a subsrciption to Sky.

To answer your other question in another post - Saorview (Irish terrestrial service) will give you RTE 1, RTE1 +1, RTE2 HD, RTE Junior, RTE News Now,TV3, 3E, TG4 and the full selection of RTE Radio services, including digital specialist stations. You will require a TV antenna to receive Saorview.

It is possible to buy a combined Saorview and Satellite (Free to air) box, to which you connect both your dish and antenna to get both services. One example of this box is the Walker Combi - currently on special offer in Power City.

im in leopardstown and i receive freeview lite from wales , people in blackrock and monkstown are receiving freeview lite from the north .
you would be better going with a soarview/satelite receiver .
you will get more english channels on the satelite , which are free to air .
most guys on the board recommend combi boxes . i prefer the freesat box . easier for the lay person to use and a seperate soarview box , extra remote ,
freesat is better than free to air , you do not have to retune every so often . also has a good epg , channesl are updated as they come part of freesat .
there you are hope that give you an idea

Hi, thanks for info, could you give me an idea of the freesat box you use
Edit- I'm in an appartment block, can't install a dish for freesat!

OP, there are heaps of people in elevated locations in Blackrock with large UHF aerials pointing at Kilkeel in NI, the same aerial seems to pick up Three Rock because most of them only have the single aerial. A lot of them are in the roads off the top of Newtownpark Ave. There's also a lot of those aerials on the Monkstown end of York Road in DL.

There's a guy down in Monkstown with EIGHT aerials on a pole pointing north. He's roughly across the road from the Catholic church, a few doors away from the vacuum cleaner repair shop.

I'm confused, if you can't install a dish then presumably you can't install an aerial. How do you propose to get freeview?

Even in an apartment, a dish can be hidden. I have one located on a balcony behind the wall and situated on a stand lower than the height of the wall - it can't be seen from below. If you are facing south, it's possible to free stand and hide a dish.

If you can't mount an external antenna for Saorview, you could try with a set top antenna, but for best chance you would need to have a view to Three Rock.
I know of an apartment that uses a set top antenna placed outside on the balcony - its in a stronger signal area (closer to three rock) but it could be worth a try to see if you have any chance.
