In general, can a couple living together both claim 188 per week while they are looking for a job?

It depends if both are on jobseekers benefit...yes. If both are on jobseekers allowance no the max paid will be €188 + ada€124.80=€312.80 this will be split between both claims. If one is on jsb and the other is on jsa then a max pay situation applies to the person on jsa and total payment for both will be €312.80. Person on jsb gets 188 and person on jsa gets 124.80.
