Home Insurance New Product Benefits Update

Since we entered the market, we have been working hard to bring you better insurance products. We’ve already highlighted the improvements made to date on our car insurance, which you can read about here. Now, I’d like to update you on the changes to our home insurance product.

    Home Emergency Assistance

This is the most publicised improvement to our home insurance product, and one we’re very pleased about. We’ve got a new advertising campaign to promote the benefit which you can watch here. We’re not aware of any other insurer in the market which offers this cover as standard. This benefit is included on all policies with both buildings and contents cover selected. It provides cover for home emergencies 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The cover is to the value of €250 for each emergency, allows for up to 3 emergencies in the one insurance year and doesn’t affect your no claims discount. The types of emergencies covered include:
    • Emergency plumbing
    • Blocked drains and toilets
    • Internal electrics
    • Roof damage
    • External glass
    • Locks and keys
We believe this is a real benefit for our customers, particularly at this time of year, when home emergencies can become more frequent due to the winter weather, and if not dealt with promptly, can be a real upheaval.

New for old cover – no exclusions

New for old cover means that if your contents are damaged beyond repair, we’ll pay the value of brand new replacement items. This is not new. What is new is that we’ve removed the exclusions to this cover. It is common for insurers to exclude items such as carpets or floor coverings, linen, clothing, etc. We spoke to consumers, and the feedback we got was that this just didn’t seem fair as they would be out of pocket if they needed to replace these items, so we changed it. Our cover now has no exclusions, so if the item is covered on your policy, it’s covered for new for old replacement. Simple.

    Other improvements

We’ve made a number of other changes to our home insurance cover, some of which are standard in the market and we believe should be included in your cover, some of which offer something in addition to the standard cover you’d expect. These changes include the addition of home heating oil cover up to €750, the inclusion of cover for ride on lawnmowers up to €3,000, and the extension of our replacement locks cover to include keys stolen in an assault.
We’re happy to provide more information on any of these changes or the terms and conditions so send us your questions.

We’re very pleased with the changes we’ve made in the last 8 months, and are looking forward to announcing even more improvements in the near future.
