Looking for a Sat Nav for my SG3 that doesn't use data. Going driving in the UK at the weekend and want something I can use without data.

    All suggestions welcome!

I used Sygic in spain before:

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sygic.aura&hl=en

Also you can download the UK to use offline for google maps:

    Sygic wins for me handsdown.

Its not intensive on the OS and runs very smooth.

Yes, I use Sygic also and find it really good.

Have you tried the built in Google maps with navigation? Works for me and you can pre-cache the maps to avoid heavy downloading when roaming.

Tomtom is actually worth the money.

CoPilot or Navigon are both good

I don't think Google maps do route recalculation though.

It does in navigation mode. its a but jumpy though and turns closer than 200m together can catch it out.

CoPilot - costs a bit but I've found it to be excellent both here and in the UK

I haven't had this problem (HOX), might be down to hardware. Google Maps makes my old Garmin look like a child's toy. I can't think of any reason why I'd need anything else.

I've been using NavFree but it's a bit rubbish. Oer a GB of download for one country's maps and it can't find big streets in medium cities. Must try sygic or try figure out how to cache google maps.

Oh wait, Sygic is 50 euros. No thanks!

Caching is dead easy: menu, make available offline, drag. You can cache up to around 85 megs of data, and you can create multiples. Area depends on data density, but you'll get most of Dublin into a single map.

Sweet, doing that now for the south east of France :)

    tom tom gets my vote

I tried the cached google maps in London, but when I zoomed in the cached data didn't have any of the names of the small streets which made it a bit useless.

Google Maps gets my vote. Went on holidays to Munich, downloaded the maps before hand, worked a charm. Even used it to guide a local taxi driver to our accommodation!

Where did you see that it is €50? It looks free on the Google Play install menu?

    I use Route 66

It stores its map on your external SD card, its free apart from the voice guided navigation which you can license by area, by month if you want

I think Western Europe cost me €5 for a month when I was going on holidays

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.route66.maps5&feature=search_result#?t=W10.

Seven day trial. The prices per map are on their website

Stupid limitation of six small maps on Google maps means you can't plan long journeys.

It's probably a lead-in to commercialisation, it's only a matter of time. I've no problem with that tbh, it puts the rest of them to shame, and has done nearly since its inception.

    CoPilot is the business.

Google Maps is frustrating at times.

coPilot has always been buggy for me. Any time I tried to type anything into it all the letters repeated themselves.
