Anybody have any experience of this lens?
I have a Canon 550d (Crop Sensor) and have found myself only walking about with my 50mm F1.8 as opposed to the 18-135 lens.

Ive found this easier, less weight etc and just all round better.

But, i am restricted with the 50mm, and was thinking of something like the 28mm F1.8. Relatively half decent wide angle, compared to the 50mm, and still containing the low light usefulness of F1.8 but from looking online, the reviews seem to be 50/50 (Good/Bad).

    Anybody have an opinion?

    Thanks.

Also check out the EF 24mm f2.8, optically much better than the 28mm f1.8 although a bit slower, considerably wider field of view too. I used it on a 40D as a walk around lens before and loved it.

Do you know if there is much difference between the

IS Version and Non IS Version (Other than IS and the price of course ;))

Hi, What kind of photography you do?
28 f/1.8 might be too tight for you on a crop sensor.
Lens is fast and it's worth the money, however all depends from your requirements.
We can rent this lens for you, so you'll have a chance to see whether it suits you or not.
    PM me for details.
Alternatively you can get Sigma 20 f/1.8 or 24 f/1.8, but if you're looking for perfect solution then go for Canon 24 f/1.4.
Still you'll use it on crop so it won't give you awesome results. Another solution for wide angle or rather ultra wide angle would be Sigma 10-20 f/3.5 or older version, or Canon 10-22.

See my Flickr link at the bottom of my post for general photos i take.
Im not looking for ultra wide or anything specific, more a very good lens as a one trick pony for walking around and then fast enough for indoor photos of the kids or parties maybe?

Can you PM me rental prices for these kind of lens as it may be useful before purchasing.

Very very good lens. South Africa's best known music photographer (Liam Lynch) uses only that lens and prefers it to the L options in the same zoom range. If you're on a cropped body the 28mm f/2.8 isn't bad either but obviously won't perform as well indoors.

I use the 24mm f/1.4. It almost NEVER leaves my camera but it is properly expensive.
