So yeah basically im looking into upgrading the cooling on my Phenom II 965, the stock cooler I find is a little loud while under load, so what I'd like would be something that would keep the CPU cool, providing overclocking headroom while being reasonably quiet.

I have looked at the Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo, but I'm not sure, I'm wondering does anyone here have any recommendations for me.

The 212 Evo is probably ok.
But check out the Thermalright True Spirit 120, it's cheaper and has got some good reviews.

bit pricey but the best air cooler for phenom ii cpu's is the thermaltake frio:

I have one on my 960t and have it oc'd to 4GHz stabily at sub 40c temps at load

Edit: also had a 965 pair with a 212 plus (older version of a 212 evo), got a very stable oc at 3.8GHz so the 212 evo is an excelent value for money cpu cooler

I've one on mine and looking at around 25-26 degrees idle temps @stock it would certainly be good enough to OC the 965 BE to its maximum anyway as you be doing extremely well to get the chip past 3.9GHz , and with that sort of overclock the 212 would certainly be well able to keep it in the region of 45 degrees max under full load.

It grand but there are better and cheaper options available now as mentioned above

EDIT: The ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 13 Pro would be another good option, there are a number of decent 25-30 euro coolers that would do the job well and are fairly similar in performance, and as you aren't going to be setting any OC world records with the 965 anyway there is no need to spend more that that I think

Hm I think I might get that 212 Evo, seems like its would suit my needs!
    Thanks guys!
