My local fuel station in Limerick has a cashier-free pump I use for convinence and speed from time to time....and i wanted to put 25€ of petrol into my car.

now the thing is the only options are 20 or 40, so i clicked 40 and put in the 25, like i normally would.

the last time (and for the first time in my experience) the full 40 came outta my account...

just wondering if someone else had this experience? and will it automatically refund like some other pumps have done on the continent for me?

Does that pump print a receipt? I'd hold on to it till I checked my account and found the correct amount only had been deducted.
If it doesn't print a receipt, I wouldn't go near it, in the end it's your word against theirs and I smell shenanigans.
I have been to a few pumps that take cards, I have always selected the higher amount and filled less and never been charged more.
    Something wrong there.

If its the tesco in coonagh your on about you can just put in the amount you want straight away their is no need the press the pre selection buttons. On a similar note those anybody else find that it fill unbearably slow when a amount is pre selected ?

When you selected 40 it has to pre authorise your car for 40, which is showing as taken from your account. It should adjust to the actual 25 when the bank settle the transaction.
This can take several days to sort out.

I don't like these pumps for that reason.

is that a Great Gas station?

I had them take the cash for the diesel dispensed but still keep the block on the account for the preauthorised amount for weeks, till I went into my bank and had the bank undo the block (station near Dublin airport).

On another occassion just outside Rosslare I had no problem with their self service pumps. Very strange and they must have different systems in each station or something.

See I had a similar experience in the Netherlands. The girlfriends car takes gas, and so we needed to put ten euros worth in. I made a mistake filling it, putting 7 cent in first by mistake, before starting again to fill the tenners worth...this was classed as two transactions and the pump pre-authorised the transaction with €250!!!! I kacked my pants when i checked my banking!

So I went into the station today, which I dont want to name for the simple reason that its a fantastic station other than this incident. They informed me that it will sort out in a few days. I also nearly drove off without paying for todays fuel because I was so distracted talking to them haha....

Thanks for the replies guys, I dunno if its really worth the hassle of losing money for a few days when 2 minutes would have me in the store paying the exact amount on card....so close to being a good idea. wonder why stations even want these removing impulse buys from their customers.
