    http://www.completecar.ie/news/article/2257/New-4-Series-replaces-BMW-3-Series-Coup

Their is a new bmw 4 series coming out to replace the 3 series coupe.

Looks impressive, will probably have all the 3 series range of engines and of course the obligatory M4.

Could be a excellent car but id imagine bmw will charge a hefty premium over the 3 series.

Id imagine a very minor premium, slightly or similar to the current coupe pricing. Putting it at a big premium and removing the 3 series coupe pricing simply opens a hole in their lineup.

Well I have to say, as new BMWs go, thats right up there.

Ya i see your thinking. We have to think of it as the new 3 series coupe as appose to a hole new car.

It is the best looking new bmw at the moment in my opinion, it might make a good cheaper alliterative for people considering a 6 series.

Very nice but by the time the m4 gets here it will probably be €3994 to tax for the year!

I love the 6 series as well but at €101,130 for the base 640i coupe it will be considerably more the the 4 series which i think will appeal to people who love the 6 but not the price.

Personally I think the 6 series is far better looking. I'd go as far to say its the only good looking post Bangle BMW.

Not sure about the styling of this one yet. Would want to see it in person first.

Seen a 640d Grand coupe in front of me the other day, very nice in the flesh.

Ah but there will be people with that sort of money to burn... Then in say 8/9 years...

Look at the price of 03/04 era 730d's now for example :-)

Lovely from the side angle but i dont like the two gaping holes in the front right and left (air intakes) and back right and left (exhaust pipes). Will reserve judgement until I see what a 420D Coupe looks like in SE form.

I won't be able to afford this €55,000 car, the tax will be too high.

    Looks great.

    Two thumbs up, looks excellent.

I'm sure the 420d will sell like hot buns. Any other engine will probably sell about a dozen in the entire country.

    Or even the 416d !

Wasn't the whole reason BMW didn't introduce a 4 series is due to Chinese supersticions?

It looks well, I hope it sells really well and sticks 2 fingers to supersticion

So what's happening with the 3 series coupes then?

Will there be an M3 or are they going to call it the M4? Or will there be both?

This is the 3 Series coupe except they are making it a stand alone model and calling it the 4 Series just like Audi successfully did with the A5 which is really a coupe version of the A4. The M3 coupe will now become the M4. There will still probably be a M3 F30 saloon and F31 estate.

Don't want to sound like a dick, but didn't they just taken 3 series coupe and slapped 4 on its arse?

We all expected a facelift 3 series coupe and here it is. Looks like more of a marketing trick then a brand new range.

I stil wouldn't say no to it though! :)

Probably. The number 4 is considered unlucky because the characters for "four" (四) and "death" (死) are pronounced almost the same (for those who are interested, the tone differs).

I'd love to know how they handle this in China. Maybe they'll call it the "141" Series...

Yes, and the convertible will be the same deal, but there will be a 4 door 4 series later.

obviuosly it does not look like a current or old 3 series, but if we would be expecting facelift 3 series, then here you go. even at this, it still does look like 3 series for me...

dont forget it is concept too. so what are the chences ofi t look like 3 series coupe with facelift?

The 4 Series is based on the F30 platform and will be known as the F32, the last 3 Series coupe was the E92 which was a different platform. While the styling looks evolutionary in parts, one is not a facelift of the other. The upcoming 4 Series 4 door will be called the 4 Series Grand Coupe and will rival the A5 Sportback.

I think the manufacturers are losing the run of themselves in recent years with making variants and variants within models (Golf Estate??) to try and cover every possible angle - most of which look virtually identical to others in the existing range anyway. Better if they concentrated on reliability I think

The gap between traditional mass market manufactuers and premium manufactures is shrinking all the time so premium manufacturers have to carve out new niches to try and retain some exclusitivity and branding.

The first Golf estate was in 1993 and was indeed badged as the Golf Variant.

That's a GT - Gran Tourismo, not a Gran Coupe.

Thats the 3 Series GT not the Grand Coupe. The 4 Series Grand Coupe will be a 4 door coupe in the same light as the 6 Series Grand Coupe I posted earlier.

I like the look of the headlights. Much more aggressive and sharp. I love the rear with the exhausts buried in the detail.

If this is the future of BMW design then they are on to a winner for me.
