The total capital expenditure budget for 2013 has just been announced in the Dáil. It's going to be €3.4 billion. No details yet of how much will be allocated to roads.

Expect a press release from Varadkar later. The roads budget was supposed to drop a lot in some 5 year plan or other anyway..perhaps one from 2010 before the government was elected even.

See link to Varadkar statement below.

I'd say we will be fairly starved of anything interesting in roads for some time to come

Varadkar has a total of €900m this coming year for Rail Road and Tourism related Capital Projects. €300m of that for rail and bus and Luas BXD enabling works.

It will drop to north of €800m in each of the next 3 years. 2014-2016 but Rail Bus and Luas BXD get €300m anyway.

This is the 5 year plan I was thinking of. Overall capital spending is set out in it from 2012 to 2016 and the 2013 sum is consistent with it.
