Cheapest PSU

    Hi,

My parents pc just broke and I am putting together some bits and pieces I have from an old pc for them. The only part that I am missing though is the PSU.

I am well aware of the problems of cheap PSUs but I really don't want to spend any money on this pc as it will essentially only be used for MS Word and internet. So what is the cheapest, reliable, PSU I could get? The Corsair CX430 seems to have gone up in price since I last checked. I would probably be willing to pay €35 at the very most, but if someone knows somewhere I could get one cheaper, it would be appreciated. I probably need a 350W - 400W PSU.

The specs of the machine are as folows:
    Mobo: Asus A8N-E
    CPU: AMD 3200+ Venice
    RAM: 4 GB DDR
    GFX: ATI X850
    HDD: 2 -3 SATA Drives
    1 DVD Drive
    2 - 3 USB Peripherals

Most people here seem to recommend this as a good cheap alternative

Pay the extra ~20e and buy the Corsair CX430, a PSU is not something you should cheap out on.

It will work out allot more if the PSU blows and takes something{or everything else} with it.

To be honest, I was just wondering if people knew any good name alternatives to the CX430 that were a little cheaper, similar to the Super-Flower suggested above. Well that or if anyone knew where I could get a second hand PSU or if someone was selling one.

Is the shipping from hardwareversand still ~€30?

I'd recommending just getting the Corsair, it's only about 42E most places. You can get cheaper; Dabs do a range of PSU's starting from about 15 euro. Most of which, can actually be okay...ish, as long as you're not putting the machine under any strain. I've used several of those cheap PSUs before in secondary machines, and found them OK. But to be honest for about 50 euro, you'd actually get an entire second hand desktop on the likes of adverts.ie that'd be more or less the same speed as a 3200+.

The amazon 450 has been used by many many people on here. Have you any proof that the Corsair CX430 is better? Or is it worth just paying for the name.
I know there are some dodgy PSUs but the amazon is not one of them.

Probably as well off getting the Antec Basiq 350W of on dabs that should do the job as it ain't exactly a monster rig , sure its not great but not awful either, it would work out at about €44 delivered by my calculations.

The delivery charges for HWVS are a deal breaker for one item and most UK retailers appear to be full to the brim with overpriced PSUs.

That's a decent PSU for a non-demanding systems like the one the op is dealing with. It's not 80 PLUS certified because it doesn't have a 115 volt power input only 230 but it does deliver over 80% efficiency on loads over 90 watts, see this decent informative review here. A big plus is you can pick one up in PC world for less than 40 euro, the VP450P is a better PSU for not much more, again available in PC World.

IMHO (and I just bought the VP350P for a media/TV server backend) either are good value for money readily available in a brick and mortar shops.

    (I can't believe I just plugged PC world:eek:)
