The Celebs are Human Too Thread

Reading the 'biggest tosser' thread and how so many celebs are mentioned in it - I agree some might deserve it - but on the otherhand the intrusive and disrespectful fan is a major problem too.

I have a friend who is rather famous (for a genuine talent and not a reality show) and one of the nicest men on Earth. He has time for everyone and is sound in every way. We went to school together and he is still the same chap he always was.

In 2011 his wife had recently recovered from a mastectomy and they have a young daughter with special needs. The family had just returned from a holiday in Spain and were waiting at the airport for their lift back home. It just so happened that a group of women who were fans came over and started demanding attention. Which he duly gave. His wife, who was still ill, felt faint and he directed his attention to getting her a seat to sit down on and rest. While this happened his special needs daughter wandered off and he had to force his way through the group of fans in a panic to find her. Which he thankfully did within seconds.

Then the lift home came and he said goodbye, but he was understandably stressed by the events.

Turns out that some of the women were also members of his fan forum. They went home that night and on the board savaged him for being "a rude bastard", his "wife for being a stroppy stuck up bitch" (she was ill and dying actually) and even made comments about his daughter being "spoilt little brat out of control" - this then began a psychotic vitriolic avalanche of intense hatred towards my friend and his family by people who never even met him. It was like a virus or something which spread around the forum and even the moderators joined in. There were 'fans' who were praising his every move only minutes before these women filed their report from their version of events at the airport.

So maybe people need to bear in mind that famous people are humans too and have most of the same problems and concerns the rest of us have and are not obliged to 'perform' for fickle fans on demand.

Another thing I have understood from being in his company is I now get why celebrities often have to build high walls and fences between them and the average moron who spends their time waiting to be offended by another wise decent human being so they can go on the internet and feel great about having taking a person who never did them any harm down a peg.

You get a unique insight into how pathological many people are when you are famous. These gossip magazines and celebrity OGM! shows have done so much to encourage this 'love' and then instant hatred of what is at the end of the day, another human being with the same feelings, concerns and emotions the rest of us have.

Terrible thread. Celebs don't need sympathy. They have money and they get laid.

Had she recovered or was she dying?

Terrible story if true but this just sounds like gossip.

When you put yourself in the spotlight you have to expect to run into some crazy people

I think it's a case of taking the highs with the lows. A celebrity may receive unwarranted criticism and harassment, but they often receive undeserved (or at least, inflated) praise and benefits too.

Well, your friends first mistakes was failing to say 'do I look like a dancing monkey? No? Well, PISS OFF!'

His second mistake was giving a flying *uc* what a bunch of biddies on a fan forum have to say.

In short he should have taken a leaf out of Frankie Boyle's great big book of I couldn't give a ****:
