Ferry crossing - UK to Ireland over Christmas

    Hello all,

    I am looking to come home from the UK for Christmas and will be taking my car with me (+1 passenger). Ideally I'd like to sail to Rosslare and am open to sailing from anywhere over here (I live in the midlands and do business all over).

    Ideal dates would be leaving the UK 21st December and travelling back here on the 2nd although am flexible a day either way.

    Would anyone have any recommendations for sites/companies? A few searches have turned up a couple of options in and around £260 - £300.

    I was hoping someone on here might have a good recommendation.

    to Rosslare you are limited to Stena from Fishguard or Irish Ferries from Pembroke,.Cost will be almost identical but I;d suggest you need to book NOW as I can imagine they get pretty full just before xmas (and price will be sky high too no doubt.)

    Yeah, I'm planning on booking it tonight and you're right about the prices, everyone seems in or around the £275 mark so I should probably hop on it before it starts to move up. Cheers.

    I would suggest booking a cruise ferry over a fast ferry as the fast ferries risk cancellations in rough weather. While these passengers would normally be carried on the available cruise ferries, there may not be space at those times.

    There is no fast ferries doing the Southern corridor anymore. I may make the suggestion that if the OP is particularly worried about cancellation or rough crossings that they don't do the Southern Corridor (Roslare-Fishgaurd/Pembroke) at all. The Stena ship (Europe) is notorously unreliable in the winter and Irish Ferries Isle of Inishmore is going to the central corridor to add extra capacity in case of fast ferry disruption leaving the Oscar Wilde to Run the Roslare to Pembroke route. The Oscar Wilde although a fine ship is slow and may struggle with heavy swells into Pembroke.

    I would suggest to the OP to go Holyhead- Dublin. Depending on your travel dates Irish Ferries may have the edge with the extra capacity over the Christmas period but Stena do have some good times if you're travelling by car.
