I've been wanting to change my car for some time now but couldn't really decide on what I wanted. Don't do much mileage, so petrol is fine for me. Spotted this ad and wanted to know what people think. It looks to be pretty good value for a 2008.

I owned a golf a few years ago, 1.4 petrol (2001 reg) and the one thing I found was that it was pretty thirsty! Just wondering if the newer models are bit more economical? Would love to hear what you experts think! Thanks!

Shes covered alot of miles in the last 4 years tbh. Nearly double the average mileage.

Id say she shows some wear because of it, So ideally it would need a good service history. That would be central.

Op I would steer clear if I were you, having owned a 1.4 golf in the past I just don't think I'd trust a high mileage one. That is very high mileage in 4 years for a 1.4 petrol golf. A full service history would definitely be necessary, I'd be happier putting my money into a civic, mazda 3 or something similar.

The same 1.4 litre engine in your 2001 Golf is in that 2008 Golf so I cannot imagine it being any more economical.

I have a 1.4L mark V golf and I'd avoid at all costs TBH, as the engine is a complete dog - way underpowered for the weight of the car. Other than that - fine car generally.

I wouldn't bother with that linked example - too high mileage and I'd go for a sportline spec.

    cheers for all the replies.

the mileage had me concerned as had the fuel economy and from what i gather, it's the same exact engine as the older model so that explains alot.

    the search continues....
