Looking to buy new car but trying to decide route to take. Trading in the missus 07 Yaris, metallic silver, 5 door, 60k 1.0L, clean except scratch on corner of front bumper.
What would I realistically be looking at getting, thinking of trading against 10/11 avensis/insignia/mondeo

Now or in the New Year?

would it make a massive difference? i.e. I know its a "year older" but garages don't seem to suddenly drop prices in Jan.
Advise as to which option I should do I suppose would be appreciated..

hard to say, you are looking at taking a newer car off the forecourt and leaving an older but potentially more saleable car on it.

I reckon you'd get 5-5.5k max for it on a trade in

would you consider selling it privately and then going and buying the new car trade in free?

Thanks for that. Was thinking of the private route but don't want to be stuck with it either. Having said that, I nice 07 yaris should be saleable enough but who knows in this current market

Maybe check out prices tonight on donedeal, then see what comes tax wise in the budget tomorrow and track prices for a week or two before deciding to go private?

It's a small engined car though so you won't be as hit as other drivers with bigger engined cars.

    Best of luck :)

Any trade-in price you get now will be based on what you would get for it in the new year as the garage would anticipate having your old car for sale in the new year also.

But the important figure to concentrate on is the cost to change price not the trade-in price of your old car. Some garages can give you top dollar for your old car which looks very attractive but the newer car you are buying could be well over priced too.

Just to update, got a good trade in price on my yaris and car I want to buy is at a great price so new year won't matter to be honest. There are actually main dealers out there who want to get a sale while others are crazy......Shop around lads
