DVD Problem

    Hi all,

Wondering if anyone is experiencing the same problem or can resolve it! I have a Toshiba Satellite L650-D laptop. I bought it around 2 years ago. Around 1 year later, when I was abroad, it stopped playing new DVDs. I brought it in to Click after I came back home this year but the guy in there wasn't able to figure out what the problem was. My housemates both have Toshiba laptops too, but they are able to play all DVDs, I only seem to be able to play old ones. One housemate has an old Toshiba laptop and she was able to play the DVDs from a Harry Potter boxset she bought yesterday, but when I tried them in my laptop they wouldn't work. I can play games, cds, copy cds etc but it seems I can't play certain DVDs. Anyone have any solutions? Thanks :)

Try software first. Download and install VLC media player. I'd be very surprised if Click didn't suggest or try this already. Nicely ask one of your buddies to pop the cd rom drive out of his laptop and try it in yours. A faulty lens perhaps. two minute job. If you do need a new drive you can pick them up on adverts for €15 or less. You may have to adjust the position of the screw retaining clip on the back and swap over the plastic bezel from your own one.

Cool, I downloaded VLC player but it will only play certain DVDs...the ones that have "copy protected" printed on the disk won't play. But, they still play on my friends laptops and not mine. I can still only play old DVDs...
